Not legal or financial advice. Visa reason codes change in live network docs. This page is a merchant conversion guide, not an official Visa encyclopedia and not a substitute for your processor's dispute UI, acquirer playbook, or counsel. Merchant defense only. It does not coach cardholders on filing chargebacks.
A Visa reason code is a social label. It tells the issuer what story they are telling about your sale. Merchants who paste a generic "customer received the goods" letter into every code lose because the attachment pile does not speak to the label. The move that pays for itself is writing a response mapped to that code, then pressure-testing soft claims before submit.
Use Pingpong to write your dispute response. Paste the Visa reason code, order facts, evidence list, and deadline. Default chain: Grok, then Perplexity, then ChatGPT, then Gemini, then Claude. Later labs challenge gaps. Brand: Pingpong at pingpongit.com. Not getpingpong.ai.
Primary ritual: write your dispute description. CASE MAKER letterhead PDF path (first PDF free, then $9/PDF or 5-pack $29 when export ships): win disputes. Hub: dispute cases. Processor pages: Stripe, Square, Adyen, PayPal, Shopify.
First eligible web review free. Web Plus $19.99/month, Pro $124.99/month. iOS three free, Plus $24.99, Pro $59.99. Start on pingpongit.com. Pricing. No invented win-rate percentages on this page.
How to use this guide (and what it is not)
Skim the cluster that matches the code on your notice. Note what evidence usually has to speak. Then dump your real case into Pingpong and ask for a description mapped to that code, plus a list of what to upload versus omit. Confirm every claim against live Visa / processor docs before you submit. Codes below are the ones operators hit most often under Visa Claims Resolution-style numbering. Always verify the code text on your notice; processors sometimes paraphrase.
Hard line: legitimate defense of real sales only. If the charge was wrong, refund and close.
Fraud and authorization codes merchants see often
10.4 Other Fraud - Card-Absent Environment. Card-not-present fraud claim. Soft drafts treat "AVS matched" as identity proof. Stronger packs explain authorization path (3-D Secure when used), device / IP notes that actually belong, fulfillment to the account holder, and prior customer history without inventing biometrics you do not have.
10.1 / 10.2 EMV liability shift (counterfeit and non-counterfeit). Card-present EMV shift fights. Evidence is usually terminal and chip-read behavior, not a shipping rant. If you are ecommerce-only, confirm the code is not mistyped before you write fiction.
11.3 No Authorization. Issuer says the transaction lacked a valid auth. Response lives in auth logs, not delivery photos. Soft drafts paste tracking because that is what the team has open.
Ask Pingpong: map my evidence to this fraud/auth code and refuse claims I cannot support. Related: respond to a chargeback.
Consumer dispute codes: not received, not as described, cancel, credit
13.1 Merchandise / Services Not Received. Needs delivery or access proof that shows the customer got the thing, not label-created. Digital goods need login, download, or usage logs tied to the account.
13.3 Not as Described or Defective. Needs the listing the shopper saw, the unit shipped, return/repair path offered, and what you actually said about condition. Catalog hero images alone are weak.
13.2 Cancelled Recurring. Needs the cancel path the customer could see, timestamps, confirmation emails that actually arrived, and whether service continued after cancel.
13.6 Credit Not Processed. Needs the refund or credit already issued, or a clear reason it was not owed under the policy the customer could see. Essay tone without the credit entry loses.
13.7 Cancelled Merchandise / Services. Cancel-before-fulfillment fights. Show cancel request timing versus ship/fulfill timing and policy windows.
Ask Pingpong: write my Visa 13.x response and flag soft delivery or cancel claims. Start at write your dispute description.
Processing error codes that still burn operators
12.6.1 Duplicate Processing. Show the two transactions are not duplicates, or that one was already refunded. Soft drafts argue product quality instead.
12.5 Incorrect Amount and 12.4 Incorrect Account Number. Live in amount and PAN truncation logs, receipts, and what the terminal or checkout displayed. Do not answer with shipping stories.
12.1 Late Presentment. Timing and presentment windows. Confirm against live network rules before you invent a narrative.
How Pingpong turns a reason code into a submit-ready description
Paste: Visa reason code and exact text from the notice, processor (Stripe, Square, Adyen, Shopify Payments, other), dispute ID, amount, order ID and date, product/service, cardholder claim, evidence list, deadline. Ask: write a merchant dispute description mapped to this Visa code, list compelling attachments, and refuse soft claims.
Grok drafts. Perplexity through Claude pressure-test. You edit into your processor's fields. For a letterhead pack outline (first PDF free, then $9 when export ships), use win disputes. Architecture: Sequential vs parallel AI. Contrast: Pingpong vs ChatGPT.
When to skip
Skip pocket-change accepts, counsel-owned cases, and codes where you have zero compelling evidence and the honest move is accept. Save the free review for mid-ticket and high-ticket Visa disputes where the first draft argues the wrong story.
