Make flashcards from a set of definitions

Paste the definitions exactly as they appear in your source and ask for one flashcard per term. Paraphrased or merged definitions can introduce errors that are hard to spot once you have been drilling them.

A text to start with

Here are the definitions from [source, e.g., chapter 4 of my textbook]: [paste definitions]. Make one flashcard per term. Put only the term on the front. On the back, use the definition exactly as written in my source, with no paraphrasing and no added examples. If a definition is ambiguous, flag it and do not interpret it.

Example request. Change the details to fit your situation.

What to check

Compare each card with your source before you practice. A paraphrase can be subtly wrong in a way that costs you points on an exam. If a card adds an example or explanation that was not in your pasted text, replace it with the source wording. Give each term its own card, even when several terms share a definition, since mixing them up is a common source of confusion.

What to do next

Import the cards into your spaced repetition app, or print them if you prefer paper. Go through the deck once to catch any card that looks wrong before you build habits around it. For cards you keep missing, ask for the definition split into shorter sentences, in case the original wording is the problem.
