Learning and study

Make a practice quiz from your own notes

Paste the notes you want to be tested on and ask for questions drawn only from that material. Questions built on general knowledge test things you may never have studied, and a good score on them says little about your notes.

A text to start with

Here are my notes from [course or lecture name]: [paste notes]. Write ten short-answer questions that can be answered only from this text. Put all the questions first and the answers in a separate section after them. After each answer, say which part of my notes it comes from. Do not add anything that is not in my notes.

Example request. Change the details to fit your situation.

What to check

For each question, find the answer in your notes. If you cannot, the question depends on outside knowledge, so ask for a replacement tied to a specific passage. A question that someone who had never seen your notes could answer is too generic. Also watch for answers that are wrong or ambiguous, and fix those before you practice with them, so you do not drill an error.

What to do next

Cover the answers and work through the questions in order. Mark each one, then reply with the ones you missed and ask where your notes address them. Rework only those questions in a second round instead of repeating the whole set.
