Not legal or financial advice. Response windows are set by your processor, card network, and the notice on the case. This page is a merchant ritual for reading the clock, not a substitute for Stripe docs, Visa or Mastercard manuals, your acquirer playbook, a licensed attorney, or the due date printed in your console. Merchant defense only. It does not coach cardholders on filing disputes.
A dispute lands. Slack lights up. Someone asks "how many days do we have?" One model invents a confident SLA. Ops opens the Dashboard and finds a different number. The social failure mode is treating a blog post as the clock while the real due date sits unread on the case. That is the moment this page is for.
People searching chargeback response deadline, Stripe dispute response time, or how long merchants have to respond to a chargeback usually get frozen SLA tables that go stale. Useful as orientation. This page is narrower. It treats the deadline as a live field you must confirm, then uses Pingpong to write a mapped dispute description before that field expires.
Stripe framing (ranges, not invented SLAs): Stripe dispute notices commonly give merchants on the order of about 7 to 21 days to submit evidence, depending on network, reason category, and how the case is routed. That is a planning range operators use, not a guarantee for your case. Other processors and BNPL rails can be shorter or longer. Pre-arbitration and network escalations often compress further. Always open the dispute in your dashboard and treat the displayed due date as authoritative. Do not schedule work from this paragraph alone.
Primary writing ritual: write your dispute description. Stripe-shaped sibling: Stripe dispute evidence. How-to money page: how to respond to a Stripe dispute. Evidence packing: chargeback evidence checklist. CASE MAKER PDF (first free; Plus $19.99/mo includes 5 PDFs; extras $12 or 10-pack $99; Pro 25/mo; form live): win disputes. Agent path: dispute evidence API. Hub: dispute cases.
Use Pingpong before the window closes. Paste the reason code, order facts, evidence inventory, and the due date from your dashboard. Default chain: Grok, then Perplexity, then ChatGPT, then Gemini, then Claude. Later labs challenge soft proof and timeline risk. Brand: Pingpong at pingpongit.com. Not getpingpong.ai.
First eligible web review free. Web Plus $19.99/month, Pro $124.99/month. iOS three free, Plus $24.99, Pro $59.99. Start on pingpongit.com. Pricing. Pays-for-itself framing only. No invented win-rate percentages.
What the clock actually is
The response deadline is the last moment your processor will accept evidence for this presentment. Miss it and many cases auto-accept for the cardholder, fee included. The clock is not "when finance feels ready," not "when the perfect PDF is done," and not a number copied from a 2023 blog. It is the timestamp or date on the dispute object in Stripe, PayPal, Shopify Payments, Square, Adyen, Braintree, or your acquirer portal.
What usually breaks deadline discipline: waiting for a perfect letterhead while soft evidence already exists; arguing friendly fraud without receipt proof until day six of a seven-day window; assigning the case to someone on PTO without a backup; trusting an internal spreadsheet over the Dashboard; inventing network SLAs in Slack instead of reading the notice.
Hard line: legitimate merchant defense only. If you cannot prove the sale before the due date, refund early when that is the honest move. Do not fabricate scans or timestamps to beat a clock.
Merchant ritual when the notice hits
Open the processor console. Record the due date in your tracking system. Read the reason code and claim in the cardholder's words. Build a thin evidence inventory in the first hour, not the last. Draft a short dispute description. Run Pingpong on draft plus inventory plus due date. Ask models to flag timeline risk and soft attachments. Edit. Upload. Submit with margin, not at 11:59.
Related irreversible-submit habit: Catch AI mistakes before you commit. Broader respond path: respond to a chargeback. Compelling pack language: compelling evidence for chargebacks.
Paste shape for Pingpong (deadline-aware)
Processor PROCESSOR. Dispute ID. Reason code and notice text. Amount. Order ID. Cardholder claim. Evidence inventory with status. Due date from dashboard: DATE (hours remaining if known). Ask: write my merchant dispute description, map proof to this code, list soft claims, and call out whether I can finish a credible pack before DATE. Do not invent proof. Do not paste full PAN, CVV, bank passwords, or government IDs you are not allowed to store.
Grok drafts. Perplexity through Claude pressure-test. You edit into live fields. For letterhead PDF now: win disputes or POST via dispute evidence API.
When to skip
Skip pocket-change accepts, counsel-owned cases, and claims you already know are valid. Save the free eligible review for mid-ticket and high-ticket cases where the clock is real and your first draft still confuses soft screenshots with a pack a reviewer can trust.
