Life with pets

Ask a travel provider about taking a pet

Pet travel policies vary by carrier, route and species. Sending specific questions before you book gets you answers in writing, which you can compare against the provider's official policy page.

A text to start with

Draft questions to send to an airline about traveling with my rabbit. I need to know whether rabbits are accepted in the cabin or cargo, what carrier dimensions and weight limits apply, what documents or health certificates are required and how far in advance, whether there are breed or species restrictions, and how to add a pet to an existing booking. My tentative route is [departure city] to [destination city].

Example request. Change the details to fit your situation.

What to check in the answers

Treat every answer as a starting point, not a confirmation. Check carrier dimensions, species rules and document requirements against the airline's current policy page, because policies change. Health certificate rules are often set by the destination's authorities as well as the airline, so ask your vet and the relevant government agency for the destination.

Before you book

Send the questions to the carrier and ask for a written reply. Keep it with your booking confirmation. Ask whether the airline sets a window for how recently the health certificate must be issued, and check the certificate's date against that window before you travel.
