Not legal or financial advice. Fee tables change by country and contract. Confirm live numbers on Stripe Pricing and in your Dashboard. This page is merchant economics and evidence quality only. It does not coach cardholders on filing Stripe disputes.
Stripe emails a dispute. Finance sees a fee. Support has chats. Ops has tracking. Someone asks whether fighting is worth it. The social object is not a slogan. It is the fee line plus the disputed amount plus staff time versus a pack that actually answers the reason. That is the moment this page is for.
People searching Stripe dispute fee, Stripe chargeback fee, or how much does a Stripe dispute cost usually get pricing tables and generic chargeback blogs. Useful. This page is narrower. It explains how Stripe's published fee lines stack for a US-shaped merchant, then shows why a tight Pingpong pack (description + letterhead PDF) can pay for itself when the sale was real.
Pays for itself: fee plus lost revenue on one mid-ticket case routinely dwarfs Plus and a stack of evidence PDFs. No invented win-rate percentages. Evidence quality and honest fee math only.

What Stripe publishes for dispute fees (confirm live)
On Stripe's public Pricing page for card disputes (US-shaped schedules as of this writing), operators commonly see:
- Dispute received fee: $15.00 for each dispute you receive. In rare cases network fees also apply. For most non-Mexico businesses this received fee is not returned if you win (confirm your country rules).
- Dispute countered fee: $15.00 for each dispute you respond to manually. Stripe returns this countered fee if you win; it keeps it if you lose (unless your contract says otherwise).
That means a fought-and-lost case can stack received + countered fees on top of the permanently lost charge amount. A fought-and-won case can still leave the received fee as a cost of the social object, while the charge amount and countered fee come back. Always re-read stripe.com/pricing and your Dashboard for your country. Do not treat this page as a frozen fee schedule.
Visa or Mastercard compliance disputes can involve additional network amounts (Stripe docs describe a $500 USD or local-equivalent network fee in some compliance paths, refundable if you win). Those are rare; treat them as a separate ritual with counsel if they appear.
Why a tight pack can still pay for itself
Auto-accepting every Stripe dispute to "save the fee" can cost more when goods value dwarfs $15 + $15 and you had delivery or access proof sitting in a tab. A loose letter with label-created tracking burns the fee and the staff hour. A tight pack that maps the reason category to attachments, restates the cardholder claim, and drops soft claims is a different object.
Pingpong's job is the writing and gap-finding step: sequential models challenge invented scans, wrong claim type, and recycled theater before you pay another cycle. Then export letterhead on win disputes or via dispute evidence API.
Hard line: legitimate defense of real sales only. No fabricating tracking, no denying valid unauthorized-use claims, no consumer coaching. If the sale was wrong, refund or accept early.
Fee-aware ritual before you accept or fight
- Copy received fee, countered fee (if you will respond), disputed amount, goods cost, and Dashboard due date.
- Restate the cardholder claim in their words.
- Inventory evidence you can actually upload (see chargeback evidence checklist).
- Ask whether accepting is cheaper than a doomed escalate.
- If economics favor a defense: draft, run Pingpong, edit, generate PDF if useful, submit before the clock.
Deadline ranges: chargeback response deadline. Compelling language: compelling evidence for chargebacks. Myths about guaranteed outcomes: chargeback win rate myths.
Paste shape
Stripe dispute ID. Reason category. Amount. Received fee and countered fee from Pricing / Dashboard. Goods cost. Evidence inventory with status. Due date. Ask: write my Stripe dispute description, say if the pack is worth the fee cycle, flag soft claims, list omissions. Do not invent proof. Do not paste full PAN, CVV, bank passwords, or government IDs you are not allowed to store.
When to skip
Skip pocket-change accepts, counsel-owned cases, and clear fulfillment failures you should not defend. Save the free eligible review for mid-ticket Stripe cases where fee-plus-goods math favors one sequential pass.
