Generic thank-you notes blur together. The ones people remember name a particular action, what followed from it, or a moment that stuck with you.

A text to start with
Help me write a thank-you note to [name or role] for [specific thing they did, e.g. covering my shift on short notice, introducing me to their contact, editing my draft]. Here's what actually helped: [describe the effect in one or two sentences]. The tone should match our relationship: [e.g. warm and informal, professional but personal]. Keep it short.
Example request. Change the details to fit your situation.
What to check in the draft
Look for any detail you didn't supply. A note that describes an effect you didn't experience, or praises a quality you never mentioned, will feel off to the person receiving it. Watch for superlatives like "incredibly generous" or "truly exceptional" that show up by default. Plain wording usually reads warmer than elevated praise.
After you review the draft
For something significant, a handwritten card may mean more than a message. Whichever you choose, add one sentence in your own words before sending. That sentence is often the part the other person remembers.
