A swap done without a plan can leave you with boxes you never unpacked and a donate pile that never left the house. Start from your storage dimensions and care requirements.

A text to start with
I have one cedar chest about 40 inches wide and two under-bed boxes roughly 30 by 18 inches each. I'm rotating summer clothes out and bringing fall and winter items in. Help me plan the swap: what to clean before storage according to garment care labels, how to use the space I described, and how to build a donate list I can review before anything leaves the house.

What to check in the plan
The storage dimensions should drive the plan. If it assumes more fits than your containers can hold, push back. Cleaning steps should follow the garment care labels, since wool, down and delicates each have different requirements. Treat the donate list as a proposal, because you may change your mind when you see items in person.
Running the swap
Follow each garment's care label before putting it away. Check that clothes and containers are dry. Label boxes by category, such as sweaters or sleepwear, and note where they will go so you can find one item without opening every box.
