Find the right replacement part number

The same appliance model can ship with different internal parts across production runs, so the model number alone may not be enough. The serial number or revision code on the label helps narrow it down.

A text to start with

I need to replace the [part description] on my [appliance type]. The model number on the label is [model number] and the serial number starts with [first few characters]. I bought it around [year]. Help me work out which part number I probably need and where to verify it against an official parts diagram. I'm only identifying the part, not asking how to install it.

What to check in the answer

Treat a part number given without a source as a starting point, not a confirmed match. Part numbers for the same visible component can differ by production batch, and some third-party sellers do not accept returns. Verify with the manufacturer's parts lookup or an authorized distributor, using your exact model and serial number. If the answer says it cannot identify a match, that is more useful than a guess. For gas or electrical parts, leave identification and installation to a qualified technician.

What to do next

Enter your model and serial number into the manufacturer's parts lookup, or call its support line, to confirm the part number before you order. If the appliance is older, ask whether the part has been replaced by a newer number.
