Home project planning

Plan daily access during a home project

List the work areas and the household's daily needs, then record which access arrangements have been confirmed for the current stage. Ask the contractor to identify restrictions and any further approval needed. Leave uncertain routes or rooms pending confirmation rather than treating a proposed arrangement as permission to use them.

A text to start with

We live in [household description] and are having [type of work] done in [area] starting [date if known]. Our daily needs are [routes, bathroom, kitchen use, entrances, pets, children or others]. Here is what the contractor has told us so far: [details]. Draft a table of work areas, restrictions, our needs and the arrangement still to be confirmed, plus questions for the contractor.

Example request. Change the details to fit your situation.

Access arrangements that still need confirmation

Mark proposed arrangements separately from confirmed ones. Ask the contractor which restrictions apply to the current work and whether a qualified professional or local authority needs to approve any access or occupancy question. A work schedule alone does not settle that question. Check that every household need has a confirmed arrangement or a visible open item. Record the source and date of each answer, and recheck it when the work stage changes.

Ask another agent to check the result

Find proposed access arrangements presented as confirmed without a dated source. Flag unresolved safety or occupancy questions, including any further approval the contractor identified. Check that uncertain routes remain marked unavailable or pending. Do not infer permission to occupy a space from the work schedule alone.

Get the plan confirmed

Send the table to the contractor and request written confirmation of the limits, arrangements and remaining approvals. Keep uncertain access closed or pending until the responsible party confirms it. Share the current plan with the household and replace outdated copies. Revisit the arrangements when conditions or the work stage change.
