Summarize a league's supplied rules for your team

Work only from the rulebook or notices the league supplied. Pick the situations your team will face, find the rule for each, and record the section it came from. Anything the document does not settle becomes a question for the organizer.

A text to start with

I play on [team name] in [league name]. The league's rules and notices, with section numbers, are: [pasted text]. Our team will face these situations: [list, such as roster limits, forfeits, substitutions, scheduling changes]. For each situation, quote or summarize the applicable rule, give its section, note any exceptions, and list what the document does not answer. Use only the text I supplied.

Example request. Change the details to fit your situation.

League rule lookup sheet

League and rulebook version or date: [ ] Team: [ ] Situation: [ ] Applicable rule (quote or summary): [ ] Source section: [ ] Exceptions or conditions: [ ] What the document does not say: [ ] Question for the organizer: [ ] Organizer answer and date: [ ] Sections that appear to conflict: [ ] Teammates to share with: [ ] Repeat the item block as needed.

Where rule summaries slip

Exceptions go missing first, such as a rule that applies except in playoffs or for players under a certain age, so read the text around each rule for qualifiers. Do not fill gaps from another league or the standard version of the sport. Note the date or version of the document you used. If two sections seem to conflict, record both and ask the organizer which governs. Put the section number beside every summary so a teammate can find the original wording.

Ask another agent to check the result

Compare each summarized rule with the supplied league text. Flag any dropped exception or condition, any rule that seems to come from general knowledge of the sport or another league instead of the pasted document, and any summary without a section reference.

Check with the organizer and share

Send the open questions to the organizer through the league's published contact and record each answer with its date. Update the summary only with answers you receive. Share it with teammates together with the rulebook version it came from, and tell them it is a summary of the rules, not the rules themselves. Recheck it when the league issues new notices.
