Make a finish schedule for one room
A finish schedule is a table that names every surface in one room and the exact product, color and finish for each. Build one per room so anyone ordering, installing or checking work reads the same reference.
Room: [ ] Schedule version and date: [ ] Surface: [ ] Product name and maker: [ ] Variant, size or model number: [ ] Color name or code: [ ] Finish or sheen: [ ] Sample reference and where stored: [ ] Supplier and order reference: [ ] Approved by and date: [ ] Substitution accepted (item, reason, approver): [ ] Surfaces with no entry yet: [ ]
Mix-ups a schedule should catch
Check similar product names carefully. Two paints from one maker may share a color name but differ in sheen, and a tile may come in several sizes or edge types. Check that each row states the exact variant alongside the product family. Confirm that the sample reference matches the sample you actually viewed. Look for surfaces with no entry, such as trim or the ceiling. If a supplier substitutes a product, the schedule should show the change and who approved it. A row marked approved with no name or date cannot be relied on later.
Check each row of this finish schedule for similar product names, missing variants, sizes or sheens, and unrecorded substitutions. Point to rows where two items could be confused. Do not fill in a missing detail by guessing.
Check against orders and samples
Compare each row with the quote or order for that item and with the physical sample. Correct any difference and note the date. Give the schedule to whoever orders and installs, and ask them to point out mismatches before purchase. Keep one current version and mark older ones as replaced.
