Food and meals

Batch cook when your freezer is small

Plan around the containers you can fit, not an imaginary empty freezer. Give the assistant a realistic amount of space and the meals you enjoy reheating.

A text to start with

I have room for four flat containers in the freezer and want easy lunches for next week. Suggest a Sunday cooking plan using one pot and one baking tray. I dislike reheated pasta. Include what I should eat first and what needs checking against food-storage guidance.

Example request. Change the details to fit your situation.

What to check in the reply

Count portions and containers separately. Four recipes may produce far more food than four containers hold. The plan should say which components share preparation and which must cool or be stored separately. Check current food-safety guidance yourself rather than accepting a model's proposed storage duration. Avoid a plan that needs more worktop or refrigerator space than you have.

The next step

Choose the meals, measure your containers and revise the quantities before shopping. Ask for a timed preparation order that includes washing up. Label stored portions with their contents and preparation date. Keep any reheating instructions that come from the original recipe or relevant food-safety source.
