Getting around

Arrange an airport pickup without guessing the meeting point

Landing time and curb time are different. Collecting a checked bag and walking out can take well beyond the scheduled arrival, and the driver needs to know exactly where to wait. A short, specific message covers both.

A text to start with

My flight [flight number] arrives at [airport code] at 2:15 p.m. I have one checked bag. Draft a message for my driver that includes the expected curb time, the arrivals pickup zone for that terminal, and a fallback meeting point if we miss each other. Keep it short enough to read on a phone.

Example request. Change the details to fit your situation.

What to check in the answer

Pickup zone names and numbers can change during construction or events, so compare the draft with the airport's official ground transportation page. Make sure the curb time allows for bag claim as well as the scheduled arrival. If you are arriving from abroad, add time for passport control and customs. Share your flight details only with the person picking you up, and edit the message to suit how you normally talk with that driver.

What to do next

Send the message once the zone name checks out. Set a reminder to text the driver when you land and again when you leave baggage claim. If the airport has an app with live pickup instructions, follow it over the draft.
